Counselling &
Psychotherapy for adults

Counseling & psychotherapy is a supportive process that helps individuals address specific issues or challenges in their lives. It often focuses on providing guidance and strategies to cope with difficult situations, such as relationship problems, stress management, or life transitions. Although I won't give you the answers, or tell you what to do, I will provide a safe space for you to reflect and come up with your own solutions. Therapy provides a safe and confidential environment where you can express your thoughts and feelings, explore solutions, and develop coping mechanisms. I have experience working with a range of concerns such as, but not limited to:

  • anxiety & depression

  • trauma and PTSD

  • grief and bereavement

  • work related stress

  • self harm

  • relationship issues (including romantic, family, friends and colleagues)

  • emotional, physical and sexual abuse

  • domestic abuse

  • physical illness

  • isolation

  • womens’ health (including pregnancy, infertility and menopausal symptoms)

  • therapeutic parenting

Sessions are 50 mins (therapeutic hour) and take place either online or face to face.

Sometimes people are reluctant to enter therapy as they worry about having to talk for an hour. I have lots of training in ways to work creatively with adults, which can really help support reflection and develop dialogue.

Every client’s journey is unique. Some may find relief after just a few sessions, while others may engage in longer-term therapy to address deeper issues. The key is to approach the process with openness and a willingness to explore and grow. Therapy is a valuable resource for anyone seeking to improve their mental and emotional well-being.

Counselling & Psychotherapy for children and teenagers

Children and young people also experience difficulties, such as  anxiety and low mood, as well as many other concerns.

I have worked with children and young people for over 19 years and have worked across the whole age span of 3- 17 years old. I am trained in many different approaches with regards to working with children such as DDP, Theraplay and Filial Play Therapy. I am also a Trauma and Mental Health Informed Practitioner with a young person focus, so I have a well developed set of skills to help children and young people.

Children and young people will often demonstrate their confusion or distress thorugh their behaviours, for example, by becoming angry or sad, or with challenging behaviours. Stress can result from life changes such as moving home, moving school, bullying, bereavement and family breakdown. With older children and teenagers, as well as the above, there may be issues with self-confidence, self-esteem, and exam stress.

Although talk therapy can be very useful for older young people, working creatively with younger clients is imperative. I use lots of creative ways to support children, such as art materials, sandplay, small world, play, music and more.

If you have a concern about your child's mental health and wellbeing, do get in touch for a free 15 minute conversation to see if I can help. The length of the therapy session is age and stage of development dependant and I will discuss this with you during our intial conversations.

Parent and Child Support

I understand the unique challenges that families face, especially when it comes to emotional and/or behavioral concerns in children. I have a number of different trainings that I can draw upon to support families. My work is Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) and Theraplay informed. I can also offer Filial Play Therapy sessions to families too. All of these approaches, help in creating a nurturing environment for both parents and children to thrive.

Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP): Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy is a therapeutic approach designed to foster secure attachments between parents and children. Developed by Dr. Dan Hughes, DDP is particularly beneficial for children who have experienced trauma, neglect, or disruptions in their early relationships.

Filial Play Therapy: Filial Play Therapy is a powerful approach that empowers parents to become the primary agents of change in their child's life. This method involves working with parents to conduct play sessions with their children, allowing them to express feelings, resolve conflicts, and strengthen their bond.

Theraplay: Theraplay is a structured play therapy approach that enhances attachment, self-esteem, and trust between parents and children. It is based on the principles of attachment theory and focuses on interactive, playful experiences that promote healthy relationships.

HypnoBirthing

As a qualified KGHypnobirthing Teacher and a qualified Clincial Hypnotherapist, I am able to offer a complete antenatal programme, which is simple, logical and profound.

Childbirth is a perfectly natural process but it can be an anxious time for parents-to-be. Self-hypnosis can be taught to Mum-to-be and with support from the birth partner. Hypnobirthing is centred on releasing fear and building confidence through practising relaxation techniques and the use of hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapy can reduce the time of labour, reduce the need for medication and intervention and reduce the length of hospital stay. Mum remains in control and if intervention is required, decisions can be made as in informed choice.

The HypnoBirthing sessions are usually 2 hours long delivered once a week over 3 weeks, but this can be tweaked depending on capacity. As well as the sessions, you also receive a copy of the KG Hypnobirthing Book, a resource pack, and relaxation audio tracks.

Smoking Cessation

Hypnotherapy can help you give up smoking for good!

If you are a smoker and really want to give up, then Hypnotherapy may be the right thing for you.

We all know smoking is bad for us, but some people find it more difficult than others to kick the habit. This is often because our subconcious mind wants to maintain our current habits and behaviours.

During Hypnotherapy, we bring the concious mind and the subconcious mind together, to focus on the same thing, quitting smoking! Your conscious mind will take control of your subconscious mind, as it should, and you will leave therapy a non-smoker.

Coaching

Coaching is a powerful partnership designed to help individuals unlock their potential and achieve meaningful goals. Unlike therapy, which often focuses on healing past traumas or addressing psychological concerns, coaching is future-oriented. It empowers clients to identify their aspirations, create actionable plans, and develop the skills necessary to reach their desired outcomes. In a coaching relationship, clients can explore their strengths, clarify their values, and navigate the path to personal and professional growth. It’s a collaborative process where you’ll receive guidance and support tailored specifically to your unique circumstances and objectives.

While both coaching and therapy aim to improve well-being, they serve different purposes and utilise distinct methodologies. Therapy explores emotional healing and psychological concerns, addressing past experiences and traumas. Coaching, on the other hand, is proactive, focusing on your future goals and how to achieve them. As I am trained in a number of different coaching strategies, I utilise various frameworks to facilitate progress, emphasising personal development and goal-setting.

As a certified coach with a diverse background that includes Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and HeartMath techniques, I offer a comprehensive and personalised coaching experience. My certifications allow me to draw from a rich toolkit of strategies that cater to your individual needs. Addtionally, I am also licensed in using psychometric tools to support clients identify areas of self that they may wish to develop further. Every client is unique, and I pride myself on creating customised coaching plans that align with your specific goals and challenges. Whether you're looking to advance in your career, improve work relationships, or enhance your overall quality of life, I’ll work with you to develop a roadmap to success.

Reflective Supervision

Having worked in education for 20 years I am very aware of the impact teaching and leadership roles can have on education professionals. Supervision provides a safe, contained, confidential space (with the exclusion of risk) in which professionals are supported to reflect more deeply about the nature and challenges of their professional work. It serves also to consider the emotional impact that very often exists for professionals as they work to support and educate young people from a variety of backgrounds. Supervision is purposeful and is intended to help professionals gain further insight into the emotional landscape, motivations and presenting behaviours of the young people with whom they work. Many professionals will at times feel challenged or overwhelmed by their role in keeping children and young people safe, which can, in turn, adversely affect professionals’ wellbeing. It is therefore important that supervision is provided to all staff, particularly to those, such as Head Teachers, Designated Safeguarding Leads, Designated Teachers/ Special Educational Needs Coordinators, Pastoral Staff, and those supporting children with SEMH needs.

My approach to reflective supervision is an integrative one, whereby I draw upon a safeguarding supervision model, solution focused approaches and combining them with the therapeutic aspects of clinical supervision. This ensures clients get the emotional support they need as well as support and guidance relating to work related issues.

As well as being a certified supervisor, I am also a freelance supervisor for a number of organisations as well as Trauma Informed Schools UK.

Reiki

Reiki is a holistic healing practice that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. The term "Reiki" comes from two Japanese words: "Rei," meaning universal, and "Ki," meaning life energy.

Key benefits of Reiki include:

Stress Reduction: Reiki can promote deep relaxation, helping to alleviate tension and stress, which can contribute to overall well-being.

Emotional Balance: Reiki can help release emotional blockages, fostering a sense of peace and emotional clarity.

Enhanced Well-Being: Reiki can support overall wellness by harmonizing the body, mind, and spirit, encouraging a sense of balance and vitality.

Before the session begins, we will discuss your intentions and any specific areas of concern. This helps tailor the experience to your individual needs.

Reiki is suitable for individuals of all ages and backgrounds, whether you’re seeking relief from stress, emotional healing, or simply a deeper sense of relaxation. It can complement other healing modalities, making it a valuable addition to your wellness routine. As a holistic and complementary therapy, Reiki is now used regularly alongside conventional medicine to relieve side effects of illness and to promote recovery.

Training

As a senior national trainer for Trauma Informed Schools UK, Instructor Member for Mental Health First Aid England and certified  yoga teacher for both adults and children, I have a wealth of knowledge and experience to support you and your organisation to develop your mental health strategy and work.

The importance of mental health has been highlighted in various ways over the past number of years and the impact poor mental health can have on children, families and staff can be reduced by having good policies and systems in place. Ensuring we have well trained professionals working with children and their families is imperative, but it’s equally important that adults know how to support each other.

Mental health is experienced differently by all of us but there are ways that we can support individuals. Having some basic knowledge or in-depth training can make a notable difference to your practice and the organisation you work with.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy can help with a range of specific issues such as phobias, chronic pain and motivation/ performance. As a clincial hypnotherapist trained in solution focused hypnotherapy, I can support you with hypnotherapy if this is a treatment you are interested in. We can discuss this during your initial consultation.

Phobias: Irrational fears and phobias are the result of an overactive survival response in the brain. Your brain recognises something it has seen or heard (a trigger) and thinks this poses a threat to your safety. With a phobia, that trigger can be innocent and non-threatening so the increase in anxiety is inappropriate and unhelpful.

Chronic Pain: The perception of pain is very much affected by our emotional state- if we are depressed, anxious or upset then we are likely to feel pain more.  Hypnotherapy can help alleviate chronic pain by reducing these feelings. This in turn promotes the natural chemicals in our bodies that reduce our perception of pain and help us cope better.

Motivation/ Performance: Sometimes we lack the energy, drive or self-confidence to get on in life and to achieve all that we want to achieve. Perhaps nerves prevent you from doing well in exams, sport or other areas of performance. Mental rehearsal is a method of visualising a situation to improve subsequent performance. Hypnotherapy can help you concentrate on the possible and remove any barriers preventing you from achieving your goals
